Gucci was founded in 1920 by a young Guccio Gucci, the brand was inspired by London, and the refined aesthetic of English nobility he had witnessed while working in the Savoy Hotel.
Impressed by the luxurious luggage he saw urbane hotel guests bring with them, he established a shop in Florence that sold fine leather goods with classic styling.
Together with three of his sons, Aldo Gucci, Vasco Gucci, and Rodolfo Gucci, Gucci expanded the company to include stores in Milan and Rome as well. The Gucci Company has since grown into one of the largest luxury goods brands and biggest-selling Italian brand.
The Gucci brand has expanded to include clothing, accessories, jewellery and fragrances.
